European sanctions have failed to curb the flow of Russians who come to Finnish border towns to shop. The head of the sanctions department of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pia Sarivaara, complained about this.
According to an official quoted by the Yle portal, Russians began to enter Finland in minibuses for shopping. At the same time, they purchase goods that are not subject to sanctions, therefore, from the point of view of local legislation, they do not violate anything.
Previously, Finland banned the entry into its territory of cars registered in Russia. It turned out that you cannot enter the country in a car with Russian license plates even if you have dual citizenship — the holder of an Israeli passport spoke about this.
Helsinki’s policy towards Russia has led to the interest of Russians in purchasing real estate in Finland crashed to 20-year low. In 2023, Russian citizens bought a total of 64 real estate properties in Finland.
