Senator Elena Afanasyeva commented on the initiative of the leader of the Just Russia – For Truth faction in the State Duma, Sergei Mironov, to deprive singer Valery Meladze of all those assigned in the Russian Federation titles and awards. The parliamentarian came up with the idea after a video with the artist, in which he continues the phrase “Glory to Ukraine”, was circulated.
“For this, Meladze should not be deprived of titles, but of the citizenship of the Russian Federation,” said a member of the Federation Council on the social network.
According to Article 6 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, “a citizen of the Russian Federation cannot be deprived of his citizenship,” unless he himself wishes to renounce citizenship. At the same time, in November 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted an amendment to the bill on citizenship to the State Duma, in which he proposed deprive a citizen of Russian citizenship for “actions that pose a threat to the security” of Russia. The document stated that “the fact of the commission of actions <...> established by the Federal Security Service.”
