The Federation Council made a proposal to create in Russia an analogue of the “Chinese firewall”, which would make it impossible to bypass the blocking of unwanted sites. About this in a conversation with the agency “RIA Novosti” informed Member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council Artem Sheikin.

“In the Russian Federation, given the unprecedented pressure from Western countries, a clear unfriendly policy, I believe that an analogue of the “Chinese firewall” is needed, which will be able to completely block access to unwanted Internet resources, including VPN services, if the Russian legislation continues to be ignored, – he said.

As an example, the senator cited Wikipedia, which, according to him, has become an “information weapon” that distorts many facts related to Russia. In this regard, Sheikin proposed to analyze “the possibilities for limiting the operation of Internet platforms, slowing down traffic in case of non-compliance with the requirements of national legislation.”

A “great firewall” has been installed on the Chinese segment of the Internet, which blocks access to Google, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc.
