The head of the Russian Federation Council Commission for the Protection of State Sovereignty, Andrei Klimov, said that the proposal of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, to extend the current presidential term of Vladimir Putin cannot be implemented. Previously, Kadyrov said that presidential elections should not be held while the SVO is ongoing, or in March 2024 Putin should be the only candidate on the lists.
“There is a Constitution of the Russian Federation,” Klimov said. “In my opinion, no one is going to change it.”
Klimov emphasized that “our president is a very great specialist in the field of law” and therefore “he monitors this very carefully.” At the same time, he added that “Russia is a free country,” therefore “any citizen has the right to make proposals.”
