The Federation Council asked not to block YouTube yet

Andrei Klimov, head of the Federation Council Commission for the Protection of State Sovereignty, said that Russia still does not have a domestic platform that could replace YouTube. According to him, it is necessary “quickly and efficiently” to create such and “we are doing this, but not very well.”
“I’m not a supporter of YouTube for sure,” the senator told Rise. “But there will be more than just pluses from an emergency block.”
Klimov explained that “patriotic structures” also work on YouTube, and if Google’s video hosting is blocked, the opportunity to “influence others through this platform” will be lost. He also recalled the technical possibilities to “get around these bans” and that “people who start to get around, they get on the pencil of the relevant foreign services” and those then “filter out of them potential supporters.”
“Such proposals are understandable emotionally,” the legislator added. “But will this be of exceptional benefit?”
