Federation Council approved amendments, which impose a penalty of five years in prison for assisting international organizations in the execution of the criminal prosecution of Russian citizens. This applies to organizations where Russia is not included.
For facilitating the execution of the decision of such international organizations, for example, the International Criminal Court (ICC, to whose jurisdiction Russia is not subject, since it did not sign the Rome Statute), will be punished by a fine of 300 thousand to 1 million rubles. or imprisonment for up to five years.
In addition, the law gives the President of Russia additional powers “to protect the country and citizens in the event that foreign structures make illegal decisions or take actions directed against the Russian Federation.”
The explanatory note states that the decision was made “because of the illegal actions of international organizations”, including the ICC.
On March 17, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. The ICC materials say that they are “allegedly responsible for war crimes related to the illegal deportation of the population (children) from Ukraine.”
