The Federation Council approved the law establishing a memorable date – the Day of Reunification of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions with Russia – September 30.

Changes will be made to the law “On days of military glory and memorable dates of Russia.” The explanatory note states that the new regions were reunited with Russia, including on the basis of the historical community of peoples living in these territories. In addition, reunification was “the result of the expression of the will of millions of people, their exercise of their inalienable right to freely and without outside interference determine their political status and carry out their economic, social and cultural development.”

September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin contributed a bill in which he proposed to establish September 30 as a memorable date in honor of the reunification of new regions with the Russian Federation. September 19 State Duma accepted law in first reading.

September 30, 2022 Putin signed agreements on the entry of new territories into Russia with the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
