The Federation Council approved laws on the integration of new regions into the Russian judicial system

The Federation Council at its plenary session approved bills on the establishment of courts of general jurisdiction, arbitration and military courts in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as on the procedure for selecting judges for these instances.

According to the provisions of the laws, those judges who worked in the relevant courts at the time the new regions became part of Russia will have the priority right to fill positions. At the same time, they must obtain Russian citizenship.
The process of formation of courts in new regions will begin after the signing of the laws adopted by the Federation Council by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the entry into force of the documents. The law on the establishment of courts in the DPR is to come into force on April 20, similar laws relating to the LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, on April 21.
