Senator Klimov called the idea of a neutral fleet in the Black Sea contrary to the Bosporus Treaty
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Andrei Klimov said that any fleet that does not belong to the Black Sea countries cannot pass through the Bosporus, according to the agreement on its use. This is how he commented on the new report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the need to create a naval task force in the Black Sea to escort merchant ships exporting grain and fertilizers from the region.
According to Klimov, this forum in itself is not an interstate association, and it is essentially no different from a “butterfly catching society,” so this should not be taken seriously as an international solution. The senator considered this “puffing out his cheeks.”
He recalled that there are rules of maritime navigation and a corresponding agreement regarding the rules for passage of the Bosphorus. The deputy chairman of the Federation Council committee indicated that Turkey did not come to Davos at all, and the WEF participants are speculating that they will introduce military forces into the Black Sea, although countries that are not Black Sea, according to the agreement on the use of the Bosphorus, do not have the right to send their warships in the event that if there is a conflict. The senator emphasized that Turkey strictly implements this agreement and did so until the last day.
