The Federation Council and the Central Election Commission will change the law on presidential elections in Russia

The Federation Council and the Central Election Commission (CEC) are developing amendments to the law on presidential elections in Russia; they may be adopted in the autumn session, stated TASS Senator Andrey Klishas.
“Yes, we are working together. This is a targeted development of individual points, taking into account law enforcement practice,” said the head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building.
Klishas did not specify what specific amendments he was talking about. According to him, “there will be no global changes.” The results of the single voting day are now being analyzed, he added. The senator expects that the amendments will be adopted in the fall session.
The day before, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev stated, that the law on presidential elections will be analyzed, and “spot changes to this law are possible.” He noted, “time passes and everything needs to be updated.”
Presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for 2024. According to the law, the procedure takes place on the third Sunday of March, i.e. next year elections could be held on March 17. The CEC has already begun preparations for the elections, CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova said earlier.
During the plenary session WEF On September 12, Head of State Vladimir Putin did not talk about participating in the presidential elections next year and offered wait for parliament’s decision on the date of their holding. The previous time, before the elections in 2018, the Federation Council decided to hold a vote in December 2017.
