The Federal Tax Service reported an increase in the number of foreign firms controlled by Russians

The number of foreign companies that are controlled by Russian citizens (controlled foreign company; CFC) at the end of 2022 increased by 21%, to 45.6 thousand. In 2022, the growth rate was a record for five years, writes RBC with reference to data from the Federal Tax Service (FTS).
According to the publication, 98% of CFCs are declared as foreign organizations, the remaining 2% are declared as foreign structures without the formation of a legal entity (partnerships, funds and others). Notifications of the presence of controlled foreign companies for 2022 were provided by more than 18.3 thousand taxpayers. Of these, 82% are individuals, 18% are Russian legal entities that control the CFC.
In 2022, the share of those notifying about CFC increased by 10%. Each reporting taxpayer on average had shares in 2.5 controlled foreign companies, RBC notes. The total share of CFC growth in 2021 was 8%, in 2020 – 14%.
