The Federal Tax Service is demanding that Telesport Media LLC, a division of Telesport Group JSC (operator of the sports marketing market), be declared bankrupt. The interlocutors interviewed by Kommersant point out that Telesport Group JSC and the co-owner of Telesport Media LLC Petr Makarenko are currently conducting legal proceedings, in particular, with the Okko platform.

On February 28, the Moscow Arbitration Court accepted for proceedings the application of the Federal Tax Service to declare Telesport Media LLC insolvent (bankrupt), it follows from files of arbitration cases. The Federal Tax Service notified of its intention to go to court on February 21, according to Fedresurs data. The next meeting is scheduled for April 4.

Telesport Media has issued valid licenses for two online media: the Telesport website (tele-sport.ru) and the now defunct Sila website (silatv.ru).

The Sila TV channel began broadcasting in 2018: by that time, the Telesport agency had the rights to broadcast mixed martial arts tournaments Ultimate Fighting Championship, and the channel, according to its positioning, was dedicated to broadcasting martial arts.

To date, the channel’s social networks are used to promote content from the Telesport website. On the Sila TV channel, according to the program schedule, other Telesport sporting events are now broadcast (in particular, matches of the Belgian championship), in some pay TV packages it has been replaced by the martial arts channel Udar (owned by Media-Telecom, JV of Rostelecom and NMG).

According to Kartoteka.ru, Telesport Media LLC is 35% owned by Pyotr Makarenko, the remaining shares are distributed between Ekaterina Rakcheeva (25%), Ivan Bryusov (25%) and Telesport Group JSC (15%). The company’s revenue at the end of 2022 decreased by 8%, to 192 million rubles, and net profit, on the contrary, doubled and amounted to 48 thousand rubles. Telesport Media LLC was also the founder of RK Sport LLC until March last year.

Kommersant was unable to contact the owners of Telesport Media LLC. Telesport Group JSC did not respond to Kommersant’s request.

Now Telesport Group JSC and Mr. Makarenko are in the process of active litigation, reminds Kommersant’s interlocutor in the media market.

Thus, due to a violation of the contract for the provision of broadcasts of matches of the 2024 European Football Championship, a lawsuit against the company was filed by the online cinema Okko in the fall of 2023, reported in November last year RBC.

Streaming beneficiary Sergei Shishkin also filed a lawsuit against Pyotr Makarenko in December last year, demanding that the latter be excluded from the shareholders of Telesport Group JSC and recover damages in the amount of 1.8 billion rubles. The company also lost the case against Channel One: the broadcaster sued for almost 0.5 billion rubles.

RegBlock chief analyst Anna Avakimyan suggests that Telesport Media did not have enough revenue to cover large expenses: “In such cases, companies often decide to transfer the business core to a separate legal entity, and in some cases to a separate business model”. If the entire company goes bankrupt, it will not be able to take out new loans and receive the planned amount of revenue, Ms. Avakimyan points out, so it is advisable to try to identify a corporate income generator and a loss center that is subject to bankruptcy.
