Analysts of the Federal Reserve System (USA) do not expect the US economy to enter a recession this year – they previously warned about the likelihood of such a development. About it says published today, August 16, the minutes of the Fed meeting, which took place at the end of July.
“The economic forecast prepared for the July meeting turned out to be better than in June,” the minutes read. The experts concluded that “indicators of consumer spending and business activity turned out to be better than expected”, so they “no longer believe that the economy will enter a moderate recession by the end of the year.” At the same time, experts still expect that real GDP in 2024 and 2025 will be lower than estimates of potential growth, which will also lead to some increase in unemployment.
At a meeting in late July, the Fed once again raised key rate by 0.25 percentage points, bringing it to the level of 5.25-5.5%.
