The FBI’s report on the accident that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while filming Rust, 8 months ago, contradicts Alec Baldwin. He claimed not to have pulled the trigger of the pistol.

The circumstances of the accident on the set of the film Rust with Alec Baldwin continue to become clearer. Indeed the ballistic report of the FBI to which had access ABC News, reveals that the shooting responsible for the death of Halyna Hutchins couldn’t be caused without the actor pulling the trigger. The American actor, who was carrying the weapon at the time of the tragedy, however affirmed the opposite in a television interview. Alec Baldwin maintained that he thought he was holding a weapon without ammunition and that the shot went off on its own. “I will never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger, ever,” he said.

The report of the federal agency, reveals that the Colt responsible for the death of the cinematographer had no malfunction and therefore that it could not have fired without the actor having made the act of pulling “the internal components (of the weapon) are intact and functional” confirm the file.

The accepted accident theory

According to ABC News, the New Mexico authorities, in charge of the investigation concluded that the death of Halyna Hutchins is indeed “accidental”. “There is no conclusive evidence that the firearm was intentionally loaded with real ammunition on set. […] The cause of death should be classified as an accident” reveals the report adding that “The death was caused by a gunshot wound to the torso” and nothing indicates that “the weapon was intentionally loaded with real ammunition”.

These conclusions do not put an end to the legal saga surrounding the drama. The producers of the film were fined $136,793 by authorities in New Mexico in April for “blatant indifference to the recognized dangers of using firearms on set”. Investigators also explained that Alec Baldwin’s phone records were still under study. The actor had initially refused to hand over his laptop to the authorities. Added to this are several civil proceedings, which have been initiated by members of the film crew, pointing to the conditions of filming.
