The European Union will allocate the second tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for 1.5 billion euros

The European Union will provide Ukraine with the second tranche of macro-financial assistance for 1.5 billion euros. About it informed First Deputy Head of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis on his Twitter account.

“We expect to transfer the second tranche of our expanded €1.5 billion macro-financial assistance program to Ukraine next week to help this country meet its urgent needs,” Dombrovskis said in a statement. The program of such assistance is designed for 18 billion euros in 2023.

On January 23, the European Union agreed on the allocation of a tranche of military assistance to Ukraine for 500 million euros. In particular, the EU foreign ministers then agreed to allocate 45 million euros for “non-lethal equipment” for the EU military training mission in Ukraine. Hungary made it clear that it opposes new anti-Russian sanctions, in particular those that could limit cooperation between Budapest and Moscow in the field of nuclear energy, while also approving a new tranche for Ukraine.

The allocation of macro-financial assistance in the amount of 500 million euros, in particular, was announced in mid-December 2022. Then the third tranche was paid as part of the 5 billion euros of exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine over the past year.

February 27 US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen statedthat by the end of September 2024 Ukraine will receive another tranche of financial assistance in the amount of $8.65 billion. She noted that since the beginning of the military operation, the United States has provided economic assistance to the Ukrainian authorities in the amount of more than $13 billion and the next tranche will increase the amount by $14 billion .

On May 18 last year, the European Commission announced the preparation of an emergency macro-financial lending program for Ukraine in the amount of 9 billion euros under EU guarantees until the end of 2022. In August, the European Union transferred the first 1 billion euros from the financial assistance package.

In November 2022, Dombrovskis announced that the European Union would not be able to allocate 3 billion euros to Ukraine out of the promised 9 billion euros. Then he proposed to allocate half of the next tranche of 18 billion euros of macro-financial assistance envisaged for 2023 to Ukraine in an expedited manner.
