The EU, within the framework of macro-financial assistance to Moldova, sent the country the first tranche of a loan in the amount of 50 million euros, informs Member of the European Parliament Siegfried Murešan on his Facebook (banned in the Russian Federation, owned by the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned). The money should be used to overcome the energy crisis, as well as to solve the problems that have arisen against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine.
“The European Commission today sent the Republic of Moldova the first tranche of 50 million euros out of the 150 million euros of macro-financial assistance, which we approved in the spring in the European Parliament. 35 million euros are loans on favorable terms and 15 million euros are non-repayable European funds,” the politician wrote on the social network.
He also noted that the payments are due to the uninterrupted implementation of the International Monetary Fund program by the Chisinau authorities, as well as progress in key areas that have been agreed with the EU: the fight against corruption, the rule of law, good economic governance, and energy independence. “The fact that the first tranche of macro-financial assistance has already been transferred by the European Commission indicates that the Chisinau authorities have done their job and that there is progress in these areas,” Mureşan added.
The EP deputy also said that Moldova is waiting for new proposals from the EC, as the country had to go through three crises in a row: the COVID-19 pandemic, the energy crisis and the influx of refugees from Ukraine, which put significant pressure on the country’s economy.
