The European Union published the names of four Russians against whom EU sanctions were not extended. Sanctions have been lifted from the owner of the ESN group Grigory Berezkin, ex-head of Ozon Alexander Shulgin, co-owner of Northgas Farkhad Akhmedov, as well as from the murdered Russian colonel Georgy Shuvaev, should from the document. He died during a special operation in Ukraine in the fall of 2022.
The EU Council announced the decision to lift sanctions against four Russian citizens a day earlier, on September 13, without specifying the names. The fact that Shulgin, Berezkin, Akhmedov and Shuvaev could be removed from the list of restrictions was reported by Reuters, citing two sources in diplomatic circles.
Shulgin, along with Akhmedov and Berezkin, came under EU sanctions last spring; they challenged the sanctions in court. They argued that the reasons for inclusion in the restriction lists were erroneous and that the sanctions violated their fundamental rights.
Restrictions against Shuvaev were introduced after his death. A military man died in the Kharkov region while on duty in the Northern Military District zone on October 1, 2022.
