The European Parliament voted for a law regulating artificial intelligence

Today, June 14, MEPs approved Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). 499 deputies voted in favor, 28 against and 93 abstained. It provides for a ban on the use of facial recognition systems and other real-time “remote biometric identification” systems in public places, as well as emotion recognition systems. It will also prohibit the use of predictive analytics systems by the police for crime prevention, etc. In addition, the law regulates generative AI (such as ChatGPT) and “high-risk AI-based systems” such as unmanned vehicles and medical equipment.
