Rosneft and Innopraktika will create maps of objects suitable for CO2 storage

“Rosneft” and the non-state development institute “Innopraktika” within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) entered into an agreement to create maps of geological objects in Russia potentially suitable for environmentally stable storage of CO2. “They will include coal and salt seams, aquifers, igneous rocks, as well as depleted oil and gas reservoirs,” the company said. Specialists of the Faculty of Geology of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov and experts from other Russian scientific centers.
As noted in the press service of Rosneft, the results of this activity will serve as the basis for the implementation of solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the company’s production and processing complex.
Last fall, Vedomosti, citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy wrotethat about a dozen new carbon capture and storage technology (CCS) projects in Russia are under study by companies. Plans to implement such projects until 2030 were previously announced by “Rosneft“,”Gazprom Neft“,”Lukoil“,”Novatek“,”EuroChemand some other big companies.
