The European Parliament recognized Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism”

The European Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing Russia as a “state sponsor of terrorism” by a majority of votes. Meeting broadcast was conducted on the authority’s website.
The resolution was supported by 494 deputies, 58 voted against, 44 abstained. A total of 596 parliamentarians voted. The document is not legally binding and is advisory in nature.
Russia is accused of “delivering strikes on Ukraine in violation of international law.
“The European Parliament calls on the EU to further isolate Russia at the international level, including when it comes to Russia’s membership in international organizations and bodies such as the UN Security Council. MEPs also want diplomatic relations with Russia to be curtailed, EU contacts with Russian officials to be reduced to an absolute minimum.
On August 11, the Saeima of Latvia recognized Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism.” In response to this decision, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that “naming ideologists [этого предложения] need none other than neo-Nazis.”
A similar decision was also made by the Estonian Parliament in October. Then the parliamentarians condemned the special operation in Ukraine, as well as referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye.
