Provided both sides do their homework, Ukraine could join the EU by 2030. About this stated Head of the European Council Charles Michel in an interview with the German newspaper Der Spiegel.

“Yes. Ukraine could become a member of the EU in 2030 if both sides do their homework,” he said (cit. according to TASS).

According to Michel, EU candidate countries need to carry out reforms, including to combat corruption. “We in the EU need to be clear about what we want to achieve together, what our priorities are and what we want to spend money on. And we need to speed up our decision-making processes,” he added.

Kyiv submitted documents to join the EU at the end of February 2022. Four months later, the country officially became a candidate for membership in the organization. A year later, according to European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, the Ukrainian authorities fulfilled two of the seven conditions for EU membership – they reformed the High Council of Justice and the High Qualifications Commission of Judges and adopted a law on the media. In addition, the authorities have enshrined the desire for Ukraine to join the union in the country’s constitution.
