The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen does not intend to apologize for the statement made on Wednesday about the losses of the Ukrainian side in 100,000 people, said the representative of the European Commission Dana Spinant.
“There was no need for an apology. We explained everything on the same day on social networks, the context in which it was done, ”said Spinat (quote according to TASS).
She also asked not to wait for the EC to disclose the internal processes for the production of press materials. “Yes, some numbers were presented, but since the numbers are hard to verify, in subsequent versions of the statement we decided to skip the numbers and focus on holding Russia accountable,” she added.
Yesterday, November 30, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since February. The EC later cut this passage from von der Leyen’s written statement and video message, explaining that the estimate used applied to both the dead and the wounded.
The previous time, the Russian Defense Ministry called the total number of losses from Ukraine on September 21. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that 61,207 Ukrainian servicemen were killed during the hostilities, and another 49,368 people were injured. Russian losses at that time amounted to 5937 people, he argued.
