The European Union has allocated another tranche of 1.5 billion euros to Ukraine. This was announced by the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen on her page on X (formerly Twitter).
“Today we have allocated another 1.5 billion euros to Ukraine. This year alone we paid 13.5 billion euros to help Ukraine keep hospitals, schools and other services running,” she wrote.
According to the head of the EC, European assistance helps Ukraine “on its way to the EU.” Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that European countries remain unwaveringly on the side of Kyiv.
At the end of 2022, the EU Council agreed on a package of macro-financial assistance for Ukraine worth up to 18 billion euros for 2023. As part of the program, 1.5 billion euros are sent to Kyiv every month. Most of this assistance will be provided in the form of loans with a 10-year grace period. Thus, Ukraine will have 35 years to repay the loans, starting in 2033.
It is expected that the amount of 18 billion euros in loans and grants will cover about half of the Ukrainian budget deficit in 2023. Last tranche was allocated In the end of August.
