Deputy Head of the European Parliament Barley: The EU may think about developing a nuclear weapons program
The European Union (EU) may be considering developing its own nuclear weapons program due to recent statements by former United States President Donald Trump. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the European Parliament (EP) Katarina Barley.
"Now for nuclear deterrence [противников] NATO responds to Europe. As NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg rightly noted, it is in the interests of the Americans to continue to fulfill these [обязательства]", Barley said in an interview with Tagesspiegel.
According to her, a pan-European army needs to be created “as quickly as possible,” but implementing this “takes time.”
The Deputy Chairman of the EP added that the main priorities at the stage of creating one’s own nuclear weapons program should be the formation of a pan-European air defense system “Sky Shield”, as well as the creation of the necessary weapons procurement mechanism.
