Twitter will violate the sanctions regime against Russia if it does not remove “Russian propaganda” materials. In this regard, the EU may impose sanctions on the social network, stated Deputy head of the European Commission (EC) Vera Yurova in an interview with Bloomberg.

She noted that if materials from Russian media that are under EU sanctions, including Russia Today and Sputnik, are published on Twitter, then most likely this violates the observance of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

“If you are not taking active action against propaganda, which involves removing propaganda materials, disinformation, then you are actively supporting military action. For Musk, this would be a very difficult and possibly dangerous undertaking or adventure, ”said Yurova.

The deputy head of the EC added that Musk should not underestimate the EC. Twitter could face sanctions if it ignores EU rules, she said.

In response, Breton wrote that “in Europe the bird will fly according to the rules” of the EU.
