The EU has not yet agreed on the ninth package of sanctions against Russia

The ninth package of anti-Russian sanctions has not yet been adopted by the European Union, as negotiations between the members of the association have stalled. This was announced on December 10 by the Polish Ambassador to the EU, Andrzej Sados. The reason for the deadlock was the large number of exceptions that the European states intended to introduce. In particular, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Belgium insisted on granting EU countries the right to unlock the assets of persons under sanctions at the national level. According to Polskie Radio, the number of people against whom restrictions have already been introduced is estimated at 1,200 people.

A number of countries refused to freeze the assets of Russian agricultural companies in order to prevent the blocking of ships in grain ports. In addition, Hungary demanded that members of the Russian government be excluded from the black list, and Sweden spoke out against blocking sanctions against Roskomnadzor, Sados said. At the same time, negotiations on the introduction of restrictions will still continue and the next meeting of EU ambassadors is scheduled for December 12, the ambassador said.
