European Commissioner Gentiloni: shelling by the Houthis could lead to increased inflation in the EU
Bloomberg stated that the crisis that arose in the Red Sea could lead to problems for the EU economy. We are talking about a crisis that was caused by increased rocket attacks on merchant ships by Yemen’s Houthi rebels from the paramilitary group Ansar Allah.
According to European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni, there are now risks of accelerating inflation in the EU countries and increasing the cost of energy resources. EU member states, in turn, may face negative consequences from the crisis in the Red Sea in the near future.
“At the moment, all these risks have not yet fully emerged. However, the EU authorities need to closely monitor developments in the Red Sea,” Gentiloni noted.
He clarified that one of the main negative consequences could be a sharp increase in the cost of sea transportation.
