The EU announced its intention to impose sanctions against 90 companies around the world

The European Union will include in the 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions more than 90 companies from different countries, including those registered in China, which allegedly circumvent restrictions against Moscow. This was stated by the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with the ZDF TV channel.

According to her, the EC is “seriously determined to stop circumventing sanctions,” so the new package of restrictions will include 90 companies around the world for which there is “clear evidence that they are violating sanctions, that is, delivering sanctioned goods to Russia directly from the European Union. through third countries.

Speaking about companies from China, the head of the EC explained that they exist partly on paper and have owners of different nationalities. “But they are registered in China, and here we will be clear. By the way, the same applies to all the other companies out of more than 90 that we are imposing sanctions on, saying that we will not tolerate this, and therefore sanctions will be applied to these companies,” said von der Leyen (TASS quote).

Since the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the EU has already adopted 10 packages of sanctions, the last of them on February 24. At the end of March, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced new restrictions against the Russian Federation. She stated that the 11th package of sanctions will be aimed at combating circumvention of restrictions.

Von der Leyen said that the new package of sanctions could include a ban on the transit of a number of goods through Russia, as well as their export to certain third countries. Recently, the EU’s trade with some countries has increased dramatically, while the EC fixes a discrepancy between the volumes of goods sent in transit through Russia and goods that end up in third countries, she explained.
