Last year, the trade turnover between Russia and Spain reached 8.9 billion euros, an increase of 8.5% compared to 2021, reported TASS at the Russian embassy in Madrid.
They said that bilateral trade showed positive dynamics, despite the accession of Madrid to the anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union and the “general negative background” in relations between the two countries. According to the embassy, Russian exports to Spain increased by 26.4% and amounted to 7.6 billion euros against the backdrop of increased gas supplies, while Spanish imports to Russia decreased by 42% to 1.28 billion euros.
The diplomatic mission specified that Madrid increased the supply of Russian energy resources by 46%, due to which Moscow took fourth place in the list of major gas suppliers (12.1% of the total).
“This trend continued in the first months of this year – for example, in February, 5.5 thousand GWh of our gas was exported here, which is 151% more compared to February 2022,” the embassy said, adding that there is a major contract between Novatek and the Spanish Naturgy.
