“Currently, the embassy and the trade mission are working to clarify the circumstances and background of the emerging difficulties with the registration of trade operations of a number of Russian companies. We are in contact with the Turkish authorities,” they said.
The embassy also expressed hope that the situation could be resolved in the near future.
According to the representative of STMLK, problems with the preparation of Turkish export and transit declarations for goods bound for Russia began on March 7. Turkish customs officers block goods for Russia at special warehouses if they got there from a country that has imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation. Blocking, the interlocutor noted, also occurs if the cargo itself is prohibited for delivery to Russia. According to the head of the sales department of Novelco, Yuri Davar, Turkish customs authorities refer to the order of the Turkish government when blocking.
In 2022, a number of countries introduced restrictions on conducting foreign trade operations with Russian foreign economic activity participants. A fairly large list of goods fell under the sanctions – from electronics to food. The US and EU have established a total ban on the sale, supply, transfer or export of these goods or technologies to any person or entity in Russia or for use in Russia.
