The Embassy in the United States considered the criticism of the ban on LGBT propaganda as interference in the affairs of the Russian Federation

Statements by US officials criticizing the Russian bill to ban LGBT propaganda are gross interference in the internal affairs of Russia, Moscow requires Washington to respect the choice of the people, according to a statement by the Russian Embassy in the United States, which was published on the Embassy’s Telegram channel.

“We paid attention to the statements of a number of American officials criticizing the draft law adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the prohibition of the dissemination of propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia or information that causes a desire to change sex. We consider such statements as gross interference in our internal affairs. Russia has consistently advocated the protection of traditional family values,” reported at the Embassy.

They added that Russia does not accept attempts by Western countries to impose “pseudo-liberal and perverted ideas about human rights.” The embassy also demanded to respect the choice of the Russian people “to adhere to the moral guidelines that are passed down from generation to generation and underlie Russian civic identity.”

November 24 State Duma accepted in the third reading, a law on a complete ban on LGBT propaganda, pedophilia and gender reassignment in advertising, books, films and the media.

In accordance with the document, sites that disseminate such information will be entered into the register of prohibited ones with their subsequent blocking, and the sale of goods with LGBT propaganda will be prohibited. Films that promote non-traditional relationships will not receive a rental certificate. The law prohibits LGBT propaganda among both minors and adults. The ban also applies to the display of non-traditional relationships in advertising, and on paid audiovisual services, access to such content should be possible only with the help of a special code that confirms the age of the user.

The State Duma also adopted a law amending the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO RF), it prescribes liability for violations of the provisions of the first law. For violating the introduced ban on promoting non-traditional sexual relations, individuals will face a fine of 50,000 to 400,000 rubles, officials – from 100,000 to 800,000 rubles, and legal entities – a fine of up to 5 million rubles. or suspension of activities for up to 90 days. For violation of the ban on propaganda of pedophilia, the fines are tougher: 200,000–800,000 rubles. for individuals, up to 2 million rubles. for officials and up to 10 million rubles. – for legal entities. Foreigners and stateless persons for such violations will be expelled from Russia.
