Russian citizens asked not to travel to Papua New Guinea amid unrest
Due to the destabilization of the situation in Papua New Guinea, it is better for Russians not to travel to this country, warned the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, which represents the country in Papua New Guinea.
Due to the destabilization of the internal political situation, diplomats recommended that Russian citizens refrain from visiting the state until the situation is resolved.
Riots in Port Moresby began on January 10. Police officers and other civil servants went on strike amid pay cuts that Papua New Guinea authorities later called an “administrative error.”
At least 16 people were reported killed in the unrest. Several Chinese citizens were injured.
A state of emergency has been declared in the country.
