Chairman of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova reported that since the beginning of voting, 20 thousand “dangerous influences” have been made on the CEC website. In total, the Electoral System has faced more than 12 million DDoS attacks since the beginning of the presidential campaign.

“The degree of aggressive impact was unprecedented, we have never experienced anything like this… More than 12 million cyber attacks since the beginning of the presidential election campaign. Can you imagine 12 million DDoS attacks? That is, this is 150 times more than usual in elections. In this matter, the West was united as never before: they organized themselves, self-organized, tried, but it didn’t work,” said Ms. Pamfilova at the CEC information center, where the preliminary election results are now being summed up.

As Ms. Pamfilova reported, from the beginning of voting until 8:00 Moscow time on March 18, 19.8 thousand “potentially dangerous impacts of high and medium severity” were recorded on the CEC website, including 10 targeted DDoS attacks lasting 41 minutes. In addition, since the beginning of voting, according to her, over 420 thousand attacks on remote electronic voting (DEG) resources have been blocked. Ms. Pamfilova noted that the GAS “Elections” system is “inaccessible” for cyber attacks.

After processing 99.7% of the ballots, incumbent President Vladimir Putin receives 87.31% of the votes. The turnout in all regions was 74.22% (data as of 18:00 Moscow time), the turnout of voters registered in the DEG was 94%. The CEC will announce the official results on March 21.
