The European Union is ready to respond to Russia’s decision to cut off gas supplies to the countries of the bloc, declared European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni on CNBC.
“We expect Russia to honor the contracts they have, but even if the militarization of the energy industry continues or intensifies in response to our decisions, I think the European Union is ready to respond,” Gentiloni said.
