The representative of the European Commission, Balazs Ujvari, said at a briefing that the European Commission considers the criticism of the Austrian authorities regarding the contract for the purchase of Russian gas, expressed by the body’s representative in Vienna, Martin Selmayr, inappropriate. This information was reported to Die Presse.
Earlier, Martin Selmayr criticized the Austrian authorities for the need to purchase Russian gas, calling 55% of the purchased fuel “blood money.” After this, he was summoned to the country’s diplomatic department.
Now Balazs Ujvari has announced that Martin Selmayr will be summoned to Brussels “to discuss the situation.” He recalled that all representatives of the European Commission must remember their role as mediators between the country and the leadership of the European Union.
Ujvari noted that the statements of the representative of the European Commission in Austria were not only unnecessary, but also inappropriate.
Earlier, the Deputy Head of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic, called a complete refusal of Russian gas supplies “an almost impossible mission.” He also mentioned that last year the volume of gas imports from Russia to Europe was reduced from 150 billion cubic meters to less than 80 billion cubic meters.
