The European Commission considers the investigation of journalist Seymour Hersh about the involvement of the United States and Norway in undermining the Nord Streams a “speculation” and will not comment on it. About this TASS stated European Commission press officer Andrea Masini.

“We do not comment on speculation regarding the perpetrators of the act of sabotage against the Nord Stream gas pipelines. The only basis for any possible answer to this question is an official investigation,” she stressed.

According to TASS, this comment was the first reaction of the European Commission to the published article by Hersh.

At the same time, the involvement of the United States in undermining gas pipelines has been repeatedly denied in the White House. The day before, on February 19, in an interview with Fox News, the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council (NSC) of the White House, John Kirby, said that there was “no grain of truth” in the Hersh investigation.

The incident at Nord Stream occurred on the night of September 26, 2022. Pressure dropped in both pipelines, after which two leaks were discovered, which were located in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more in the Danish EEZ.

Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark agreed to conduct a joint investigation, but this idea was later abandoned. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, stating “increasing suspicions of gross sabotage”, but those responsible for what happened were not named.

February 8 Seymour Hersh published investigation of the Nord Stream incident, in which he accused the United States and Norway of being involved in the bombing. According to him, during NATO exercises in the summer of 2022, American divers planted explosives under the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. On September 26 of the same year, a Norwegian naval aircraft dropped a sonar buoy. It was he who set off the explosives, the journalist concluded.
