Jakarta hosted the first round of talks between representatives of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Indonesia on the conclusion of a free trade agreement, the press service of the organization reports in Telegram.
“Following the results of 2022, mutual trade between the EAEU countries and Indonesia increased by 58% compared to 2021. The free trade agreement will ensure an additional growth in trade turnover, creating conditions for the effective implementation of the export potential of our economies,” Anton Tsetsinovsky, Head of the Department of Special Issues of Trade Regulation of the Trade Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), reports the press service.
In his opinion, the results of the first round of negotiations make it possible to look with optimism at the prospects for dynamic negotiations in the future.
In May 2022, the heads of the EAEU member states decided to start negotiations to conclude a free trade agreement with Indonesia. The EEC Trade Minister Andrey Slepnev and Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hassan announced the start of negotiations in December last year.
