The Dutch prosecutor’s office opened 45 criminal cases against companies and individuals who are suspected of circumventing anti-Russian sanctions, transmits RTL Nieuws.
According to the agency, at the end of 2022, there were 27 such investigations. “It should be expected that the longer the sanctions are in place, the more bypasses there will be,” said the press attache of the prosecutor’s office, Els Martens.
Of the 45 criminal investigations currently underway, 29 are related to violations of import and export sanctions. Other investigations concern violations of financial restrictions.
“As far as we know, one criminal investigation has already led to a specific lawsuit: Dmitry K. is suspected of exporting microchips and possibly drones to Russia, including through Kazakhstan. The case has not yet been considered on the merits, ”the publication concluded.
Under Dutch law, circumvention of sanctions is punishable by imprisonment for up to six years, community service or a fine of up to 90,000 euros.
On February 25, the European Union introduced the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which included restrictions on 87 individuals and 34 legal entities. New restrictions began to be introduced after the start of the special operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
