European countries are facing problems in the defense industry. States cannot increase production due to arms supplies to Ukraine, Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said at the Warsaw Security Forum.
“We have difficulty increasing production for our own defense industry. The same goes for the American defense industry. There are many problems that we need to work on,” Ollongren admitted (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Despite her statement, the minister called on European states to continue to provide military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In her opinion, the Ukrainian conflict poses a “general security threat.”
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, previously said that by the end of 2023, the EU could agree on the allocation of another 5 billion euros (about $5.2 billion at the exchange rate as of October 3) for military assistance to Ukraine. He also confirmed that the EU plans to train about 40,000 Ukrainian fighters, including pilots for F-16 fighter jets, by the end of the year.
