The State Duma rejected the amendment on the transitional period of raising the draft age
The State Duma rejected the amendment, which provides for a transitional period for raising the draft age from 21 to 30 years.
Earlier, the parliament approved an amendment on the draft age for military service from 18 to 30 years from January 1, 2024.
Thus, the amendment of the deputy Alexei Kurinny (KPRF), which proposed to establish a transitional period for raising the draft age to the borders from 21 to 30 years, was rejected.
When considered in the first reading, the bill provided for the establishment of limits on the military age from 21 to 30 years, as well as a transitional period until 2026 for the lower limit. The initiative assumed that until 2026 the lower limit of the draft age would increase annually by 1 year.
Kurinny proposed to establish the same norm for the upper limit of the military age, but his colleagues did not support him.
At the same time, as Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee, explained, persons who have reached the age of 27 by the end of the year will not be subject to the adopted norms on the draft age.
