Russia supports the initiative of American leader Joe Biden to expand the composition of the UN Security Council. This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Alexei Chepa, quoted by “Gazeta.Ru”.
As the expert noted, for “the world order it would be correct” to accept into the organization the countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, in particular India and Brazil, which are also members of BRICS. In addition, the deputy proposes to think about the accession of Middle Eastern countries.
Chepa added that the value of the UN Security Council is based on the results of the Second World War, so he considered the inclusion of Germany and Japan in the organization premature.
On September 18, White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby, in a conversation with the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, said that next week the head of the White House, Joe Biden, will raise the issue of making changes to the composition of the UN Security Council.
According to the publication, the US President insists on “five or six” new permanent members of the UN Security Council, including India, Germany, Japan, and Brazil.
