As reported by The Economist, informed sources told foreign journalists that Kirill Budanov at the last moment refused the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“It was the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Budanov, who was considered by the presidential administration as one of the main candidates to replace the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. However, he refused this position,” the sources noted.
Speaking about Zaluzhny himself, they added that Zelensky told him that he had decided to remove him from his post and offered to take the post of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council after his resignation. However, Zaluzhny did not accept him.
