Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said “RIA News”, that the decision to nominate State Duma deputy Nikolai Kharitonov as a possible presidential candidate on December 22 will be made by the plenum of the Communist Party. Mr. Kharitonov also stated TASSthat the final decision has not yet been made.
“Only the congress has this right. Some organizations nominated me and continue to nominate me, and Afonin, and Novikov, and Kharitonov, and Kalashnikov, and Kolomeytsev… The decision will be made on Friday by the plenum,” said Mr. Zyuganov.
Nikolai Kharitonov said that he would not like to get ahead of himself, but clarified that his candidacy is also being considered. He added that on December 22, the plenum will decide on the presidential candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, and on December 23, at the Communist Party Congress, a secret vote will be held.
December 20 sources TASS and RBC reportedthat the Presidium of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation supported the candidacy of Mr. Kharitonov as a possible presidential candidate from the party. Nikolai Kharitonov is 75 years old. He already participated in the presidential election in 2004, finishing second with 13.69% of the vote.
