The proposal of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture to increase the annual quota for the export of grain from the country in 2023 to 25.5 million tons was supported by the subcommittee on customs and tariff regulation of the Ministry of Economy. If an increase in the quota is agreed, it will more than double in annual terms (in 2022, this indicator located at the level of 11 million tons, the quota was valid from February 15 to June 30).
“A proposal was supported to increase the tariff quota for the export of grain outside the territory of the Russian Federation to states that are not members of the EAEU, grain crops from February 15 to June 30, 2023 inclusive in a total volume of 25.5 million tons,” Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko quotes regulator’s commentary in his Telegram channel.
She attributed the quota increase to Russia’s “historic record” in grain harvest this year. According to her, Russian farmers have harvested more than 150 million tons of grain this year, which allows the Russian Federation to sell surplus food.
In October, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dmitry Patrushev, announced Russia’s readiness to supply the poorest countries with up to 500,000 tons of grain free of charge. Then he appreciated Russia’s export potential this year is 50 million tons of grain.
