Canadian retailer Helly Hansen has decided to stop working in Russia. Control over assets was received by the Russian top management at the end of August. In October, the company was also renamed Retail RC. The newspaper reported Vedomosti.
According to Vedomosti with reference to Spark-Interfax, since the end of August, the ex-general director of the division in the country, Igor Roganovich, and lawyer Andrei Karasev, have become the owners of Russian assets of Helly Hansen. Mr. Roganovich confirmed the deal to the newspaper, but did not provide any details. According to experts interviewed by the publication, its amount could be symbolic.
Helly Hansen employees also told Vedomosti that most of the chain’s stores will be closed after the sale of stocks. Igor Roganovich explained that the company managed to agree with the landlords on the termination of contracts or on rebranding and continuation of work.
Igor Roganovich also said that in the future the network will operate under the Move brand. The stores will sell Nike, Adidas, Puma, Mont, Kronos, Geox, Under Armor and other brands, he said. Mr. Roganovich did not specify how they will be delivered to Russia.
In March, Helly Hansen owner Canadian Tire Corp. stopped deliveries to Russia due to the military operation in Ukraine. Kommersant wrote in the summer that the leadership of the Russian branch changed store signs to Cyrillic in the hope of resuming deliveries.
