The culture pass extended to all middle school students

During the back-to-school meeting of academy rectors at the Sorbonne this Thursday, August 25 in Paris, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron formalized the extension of the pass culture to all college students.

Reserved until now for young people aged 15 to 18, it makes it possible to buy, thanks to an individual loan, books, subscriptions to the press or to music streaming platforms. This device met with great success last year. Born in June 2019 in fourteen departments, the Culture Pass was launched nationally in May 2021. At the time it was reserved for young people aged 18, before being extended last February to over 15s.

“We want school for all. The school must be the breeding ground where equality of opportunity grows, not the terrain of social reproduction. The school must be a breeding ground brewed by republican solidarity, enlivened from start to finish by the same faith in the effort and in the transmission», declared the Head of State during the meeting.

The measure had already been announced by Elisabeth Borne last July in his first general policy speech before The national assembly. “Let’s make culture accessible to everyone, from the youngest. This is why we will propose to extend the Pass culture from the sixth and to amplify artistic and cultural education.she said.

Beneficiaries of the scheme receive 20 euros the year they turn 15, 30 euros the year they turn 16 and 30 euros the year they turn 17. From the age of 18, young people can have an amount of 300 euros for two years.

With a budget of 40 million euros in 2020, the Culture Pass had seen its credits double in 2021: 59 million were provided by the State and 12 million by private partners. The appropriations not used in 2020, of 9 million euros, had been reused.
