Even after the finale of its sixth season, The Crown was back in the news. The creators of the project decided to put up for auction the props that were used during the filming, and the results of the auction surprised everyone.
Over the course of six seasons, the series about the reign of Elizabeth II acquired an impressive army of fans, so few doubted that the filming props would be sold out. The total cost of the lots was about seven hundred thousand pounds (eighty and a half million rubles at the current exchange rate) and of course they planned to make money from the sale, thus receiving money for charity, which is common among practitioners for such auctions. But few expected that they would earn a million pounds.
The real hits of the auction held in London were a car that “played” the role of Princess Diana’s personal transport and a copy of the door of the British Prime Minister’s residence on Downing Street. The vintage Jaguar “sold” for seventy thousand pounds (eight and a half million rubles), which is very good for, to put it mildly, not a new car.
In October last year, Queen Elizabeth’s Range Rover was put up for sale, and at that time the car was valued at more than three times more expensive than the movie Jaguar. But in the case of an SUV, we are really talking about the car in which the royal person traveled. The Jaguar from the series has nothing to do with Diana, but this apparently does not bother the new owner.
The price of the door of the house on Downing Street has not been reported, but during the auction there were rumors that former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was very interested in the lot. However, a copy of the famous door went to another buyer.
Quite quickly, a copy of the coronation chair was sold, as well as replicas of the golden carriage and funeral procession that existed in single copies. There was also great interest in trinkets such as porcelain corgis and the wand with which the Queen mixed her cocktails. And quite expensive props items and those that cost a maximum of a hundred hundred pounds were purchased for amounts significantly exceeding their cost.
Following the auction, the producers of the series stated that such success was an excellent ending to the project. Before the auction, all the props were presented at the exhibition, which was visited by more than thirty thousand people.
