The lead singer of the rock band Bi-2 Leva (Egor Bortnik, declared a foreign agent) published photographs and videos of the band’s stay in a migration prison in Thailand. The Russian rock band was detained on January 24 due to violation of immigration laws.
“We just want to remind you that the main value of Bi-2 was and remains freedom. It is always inside us,” Mr. Bortnik wrote on Instagram (the owner of the company Meta is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).
The footage published by the musician shows that the group was kept in a common cell, in which people lie in a heap on mattresses and blankets. In other photographs, the team is already in a separate cell without beds, with blankets on the floor. Also, equipment, in particular phones, was not confiscated from the group members. The published videos captured the moments of transportation of the group members in a Thai paddy wagon, as well as the taking of fingerprints in a migration prison.
On January 24, the rock band was detained after a performance in Phuket. The court fined the musicians $95 for holding a concert without permission and placed them in a temporary detention center in Bangkok. It is known that the musicians violated immigration laws because moved in to the country to work on a tourist visa.
It is indicated that the musicians should have been expelled from the kingdom, but according to Thai Foreign Minister Panpri Phitthanukar, they cannot be deported to Russia, where “they may be subject to political persecution.” On January 30, the detainees refused to communicate with the Russian consul. On the same day Mr. Bortnik was deported to Israel, and later – the rest of the group.
