The court sentenced the attacker of the Russian Consulate General in Lviv to 11 years in prison

The 2nd Western District Military Court found former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Parasyuk guilty of attacking the Russian consulate in Lviv in 2016. About this reported General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation.
Parasyuk was found guilty under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code, including public calls for terrorism and justification of terrorism, desecration of the Russian flag and attack on the Consulate General. The sentence was passed in absentia because the convict fled the investigation and trial and has been on the international wanted list since 2017.
According to information from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the attack on the consulate on March 9, 2016 was carried out by Parasyuk together with unidentified persons in order to complicate relations between Ukraine and Russia. The building was bombarded with pyrotechnics and other objects.
“Parasyuk illegally entered the territory of the consulate, where he tore the state flag of the Russian Federation from the flagpole, walked with it outside the foreign establishment, publicly threw it to the ground and, with the participation of unidentified persons, trampled it underfoot and burned it,” it follows from statements Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
On the same day, according to the department, Parasyuk publicly called for terrorist activities against Russian citizens, “recognizing the ideology and practice of terrorism as correct, in need of support and imitation.”
Parasyuk was sentenced to 11 years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for a period of three years.
March 30, 2016 Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved draft resolution on termination of diplomatic relations with Russia. Parasyuk was one of its authors together with deputies of the Radical Party Oksana Korchinskaya and Yuriy-Bohdan Shukhevych, the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction Oleg Petrenko and the Batkivshchyna faction Igor Lutsenko.
