The arbitration court in Stockholm ordered the Finnish company Gasum to pay the debt “Gazprom export” in the amount of more than 300 million euros for gas supplies, the press service of the Russian company reports.
“The Arbitration Tribunal, in its decision, among other things, ordered Gasum to pay “Gazprom export” debt in the amount of more than 300 million euros for gas supplies and in connection with the failure to fulfill the obligation “take or pay”, as well as interest for late payment”, — says in a message in the Telegram channel.
In addition, the court recognized the decree of the President of Russia on the transition to payment for gas in rubles as a force majeure circumstance under the contract. Thus, the tribunal confirmed the legitimacy of suspending natural gas supplies if the buyer fails to pay in rubles, the press service added.
Finland is on the list of unfriendly countries as a member of the European Union, so Gasum also had to switch to paying for gas in rubles. But Gasum, who has was concluded a long-term contract with Gazprom in euros, did not accept the new conditions.
According to the new mechanism, importers of Russian gas from unfriendly countries must pay for supplies in rubles. To do this, you need to open special accounts with Gazprombank and transfer the gas fee there in the currency of the contract. The bank then converts the money into rubles and transfers it to Gazprom.
